Performance of the Economy

As a result of the above mentioned reform programmes, the economy showed a marked improvement growing at annual average rate of 5.8 percent per annum. The rate of inflation declined from around twenty per cent in 1992 to an annual average rate of below four per cent for the last ten years. The country¡¯s foreign exchange improved, the budget deficit declined to acceptable levels and above all private investment activities flourished. ¡¡
