The main mission of the Ethiopian Community Association in Beijing is to support one another and to help fight poverty at home.
Ethiopian Embassy, Beijing, 13 May 2013- Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin made the remarks at the meeting of the Ethiopian Community Association in Beijing on Saturday, May 11 in the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing.
The Association discussed and amended the existing Article of Association as well as the Memorandum of Association.
In conformity with the rules and procedures stipulated in the Article of Association, the seven members of the Executive committee were elected and they assigned responsibilities to each member. Accordingly, Mr. Aschalew Belay was reelected President.
On the Occasion, H.E. Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin congratulated the Association for a successful reorganization itself and briefed the community on current developments in Ethiopia and on Ethiopia-China relations.
He said poverty is slavery. We are fighting poverty by all means possible and we are also asking others to join hands in the same spirit. He said one of the major missions of the association should be fighting poverty.
I congratulate the members of the association for uniting to support one another and to fight our only enemy- poverty. He reiterated his personal as well as the Embassy’s commitment to work closely with the Association and its elected members.
While briefing the Ethiopian community present at the meeting, Ambassador Seyoum said the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) of the country is being implemented fairly well. The economy has continued to grow on average at 10.5% in the last two years of the GTP period. Although the agricultural sector didn’t generate the expected income due to variety of reasons last year, the industry and the service sectors are progressing as planned.
He underlined that the implementation of the Five Years Growth and Transformation Plan is a matter of crucial importance for the sustained forward movement of our country in all aspects.
Side by side with the development efforts, the Ethiopian Government has the tenacity to improving good governance and to fighting corruption.
On Ethiopia-China relations, Amb. Seyoum highlighted on the existing fruitful partnership in projects, in electric power generation and distribution, on railway construction and on telecom development. He said the projects are moving at an appreciable pace. He added, Ethiopia gets loan and aid in billions of Dollars from China.
He concluded his statement by emphasizing that the Ethiopian Community Association in Beijing can play a meaningful role in strengthening the relations between the two countries particularly in introducing Ethiopia to the Chinese Public, Investment, Trade, technology transfer and Tourism.
