Ethiopia and China partnering in the Development of Ethiopia’s

Special Economic Zones and Industrial Parks

Ethiopian Embassy, Beijing, 10 April 2013, A “Memorandum of Cooperation in Consulting on the Development of Special Economic Zones” was signed between H.E. Amb. Seyoum Mesfin, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China and Mr. Shi Rongyao, President of china Association of Development Zones (CADZ) on Monday, April 8.

 

 

H.E Ambassador Seyoum, on the occasion said, the MOU is a key instrument and a corner stone for future contractual agreements and the implementation of programs and projects in the industrialization process of Ethiopia. He further underlined the conviction of the Ethiopian Government to establish Special Economic Zones and Industrial Parks by adapting the Chinese experience to the Ethiopian reality.

 

Mr. Shi Rongyao on his part underlined on CADZ commitment to carry out its responsibilities and reiterated Chinese Government’s readiness and willingness to share accumulated and research based experience and knowledge to Ethiopia.

 

The Secretary General, Vice secretaries General, and senior experts of CADZ, were present at the signing ceremony. Partners from the Communist Party of China, the Export and Import Bank of China, the China Africa Joint Chamber of Commerce and industry, China Development Institute and Nile Investment Consulting Co. Ltd. also witnessed the signing ceremony.

 

 

A team of experts from CADZ is expected to travel to Ethiopia soon for a detailed discussion with the Ministry of Industry and to undertake a study. A working group composed of diplomats from the Ethiopian Embassy and CADZ experts is in the process of formulating Terms of Reference for the visit.
