"Ethiopia has the potential to become globally competitive in large segments of light
manufacturing by leveraging its labour cost and comparative advantage in the natural resource
industries", World Bank Report (2012). The major investment opportunities include the
following areas.

Manufacturing:- food & beverage industry (sugar, meat, milk, fruits & vegetables, macaroni &
spaghetti, starch, corn flex, etc), textiles and garments, leather and leather products; paper and
paper products, chemicals, pharmaceutical & drugs, rubber and plastics products, computer,
electronic and optical products, electrical pro
ducts, machinery and equipment, vehicles & trailers, office and household furniture, construction
ceramics and sanitary products, jewelries and related articles, sports equipment, games and toys.

Agriculture:- food crops (wheat, maize, beans, peas, lentils, soybeans, chickpeas, pulses, etc),
Oil crops (rapeseed, linseed, groundnuts, sunflower, niger seed and cotton seed) beverage crops
(coffee and tea), Cotton, feed stocks for bio-diesel, fruits & Vegetables, sugarcane plantation,

* Omo-Kuraz 4: estimated cost of factory: $550 million; daily crushing capacity: 24,000
TCD; cane plantation area: 50,000 ha.
* Omo-Kuraz 5: cost of factory: $580 million; daily crushing capacity: 24,000 TCD, and
cane plantation area: 50,000 ha
* Beles: daily crushing capacity: 12,000 TCD and cane plantation area: 25,000 ha.

2. Ghion hotel: is located in Addis Ababa at hot spring area which has the potential to change
Addis Ababa into a Spa-city.

3. Assembling projects
* AC motors assembling: capacity: 10,000 units of AC motor with capacity of 1 to 7.5
horse power per annum; estimated Capital: $1.99 million.
* Agricultural implements (hand, animal and tractor drawn): capacity: 200,000 units of
farm implements per annum (150,000 hand implants and 50,000 animal and tractor drawn
implements); capital: $2.02 million.
